Ocular Facial Prosthesis

When part of the face is missing due to a birth difference, traumatic injury, or surgical treatment of disease, patients experience loss of function and quality of life. We create custom prosthetic devices for missing or disfigured facial areas including:

  • nasal (nose),Orbital Prosthesis
  • Orbital (eyelids)
  • Auricular (ear).

Each prosthesis is individually designed to restore aesthetic balance and symmetry to the face. Facial prostheses improve function by closing open defects, protecting sensitive tissue, and supporting eyeglasses. You can expect a facial prosthesis uniquely created for you. Everything about our process from determining how your prosthesis will be retained to fabrication is personalized to meet your needs. We mimic the texture, color, and translucency of your skin to create a silicone facial prosthesis with a natural appearance. Your prosthesis will be lifelike, comfortable, secure, durable and safe.

Eye Prosthesis

Our specialty focuses on patients who have had an Orbital Exenteration and are missing the globe of the eye (ocular) and eyelids (orbital). Each ocular is custom-made by laminating layers of Acrylic delicately painted to match your intact eye. In some cases we fabricate the ocular or we may collaborate with Ocularist. The ocular is incorporated into the orbital prosthesis, which is made from a soft silicone to intimately fit the orbital defect. We insert natural hair to reproduce absent lashes and eyebrows. Some orbital defects extend into the brow, nasal, or cheek region or may extend into the mouth. When an orbital prosthesis is extensive it may be called an upper facial prosthesis or hemi-facial prosthesis. Our clinical expertise prepares us to effectively create prosthetic solutions for patients with complex and extensive orbital defects.
